Fall 2018 Outfit Inspiration

Since offering my current fall special*, I've had several clients ask about clothing inspiration ideas. Ideally, we'd each have a never ending closet full of options and an unlimited budget for picture-perfect family portraits. However, that's not usually the case.
One major hint I like to share with clients is this: use the fall prices to get a jump start on holiday gifts/cards! Go ahead, take advantage of the warmer weather for the actual appointment and just dress the part of a winter holiday to make the most out of your portrait session. Think about it, you can actually get all those Christmas cards out on Black Friday (after hitting those sells, of course...) Don't get me wrong, I'd love to capture each client family in each season, but part of the drive behind my work is to offer a more affordable product!

I really love these two outfit inspiration boards, the red draws the eye, yet the neutral tones help produce "clean" palettes for family images. The top option is an example of how you can throw in a more seasonal pattern (in this case the red and black plaid) with some clean basics and throw in some smiles for a great holiday greeting card for friends and families! The image to the right shows how even an autumn themed outfit palette can flow together seamlessly. And if you start with the hardest member of your family to dress, you'll be amazed at how quick everything comes together!
Another aspect of outfit planning to remember is also the BIGGEST lifesaver: Having everything set out, and previously tried on, will allow for a less stressful prep prior to your shoot. Less stress brings me more relaxed clients, and THOSE clients end up the most satisfied.
If these ideas don't jive with your style, don't hesitate to log onto Pinterest to search for other inspiration sets! They have ideas for all clients, immediate family to large generational settings.
