Take The Pics!

Ok, I'm gonna make some eyes roll, here.

You've got a camera. You know nothing about it. All the best photographers started out in the exact same position you've now found yourself in: hopeful yet intimidated.

So I'm going to let you in on a little secret: take the pics! All of them, any of them, all the time. Oh, that's a pretty flower, SNAP DAT! Kids making a mess? CAPTURE IT! Honey, you can read user manuals all day, but until you use the camera, it'll all be worthless facts.

I cannot tell you how many instruction manuals I dove into trying to decifer the black box. Aperature, shutter speed, exposure, flash.... what?

It wasn't until I realized I had to STUDY my craft through professionals that I was able to retain the information needed to struck out on my own.

Then, a sweet photographer friend of mine shared a few websites which I ultimately dove into with amazing results. My favorite:

www.creativelive.com "Master your craft, your passion, or something new with creative classes taught by the world’s best." Guys, this website has free classes to learn from actual people who been there, done that.

Outside of diving into the educational side of photography, you will still need to dive into taking pictures as often as you can. Carry that thing around with you. Join Facebook photography groups and share your snaps. Ask for constructive criticism. You'll get it. Two years ago a well known photographer in my area commented on a landscape portrait "Great composition on this, you've got the right idea" and it boosted my little rear into gear.

Now don't get me wrong, I am no where near my business idols even two years later. But at least I can say I continued TWO YEARS LATER and am still going. Just keep snapping, just keep snapping...
